The Starbucks to WalMart ratio used on FiveThirtyEight.com is nonsensical. It supposedly is a marker for liberal vs conservative, or perhaps yuppies vs everyone else. But isn't it simply an indicator of available space?
Star bucks are small and you can pack in several on a city block (there are two in the building I work in). WalMarts take up so much room they can only be built out in the boondocks. So what's the comparison? Is it just a number for people interested in numbers?

Browsers suck!
Why do the crappy technologies get adopted first and established so firmly that there are no alternatives?
